Jason has also just launched the website for his own record label, 11 Records! Music from Jason along with friends like Jherek Bischoff (of The Dead Science, Xiu Xiu, and lots of other projects). Free MP3s and suck, check that out!

And yes, he did play some unannounced shows in England this month with The Dresden Dolls...

11/07/2006: Angel Nova says...
A public service announcement from Angel Nova of The Phenomenauts:

Vote or die.

Angel seems to be channeling Puff Daddy here, but I still like where he's going with it.

11/06/2006: TeraNakedMelos
I just got back from visiting Tera Melos in the studio where they are recording for a brand new CD. Nick and Nathan were naked for some reason, and Nick refused to take off his wizard mask. I think Vince was doing his best to ignore them.

The new songs shred. Be excited.

11/02/2006: News Dump!!!
I hope you had a safe and fun Halloween. Things at Springman HQ are BONKERS! Thank you for coming here for your Holiday shopping needs, we have lots of great cheap CDs and we appreciate your keeping our mail-order department super busy.

Here is a band-by-band update!

The Phenomenauts just announced another round of dates with The Toasters coming up this month! Visit their MySpace page for the details, and check back next week for EVEN MORE shows.

The Phenomenauts' Annual Zombie Party was incredible as usual this year, with a surprise appearance by The Teenage HarNuts:

Those with a good memory may remember The PhenomeNuts from last-year:

Big D And The Kids Table just played two epic Halloween parties in Boston at The Avalon! If you have pictures or video from either show, please post it online for us to share! Big D just got done playing a bunch of shows with The Toasters, I like how they play with our bands on both coasts. Check out Big D on tour with Rancid in December!
Visit Big D on Myspace for tour updates.

The Groovie Ghoulies are almost done with their own Cramps tour, including their own Halloween show at The Fillmore in San Francisco! Check back soon for LOTS AND LOTS of shows all over California and more Ghoulie news... Updates on their MySpace page.

Tera Melos just got back from an epic tour with The Fall Of Troy! There is no rest for the awesome, Tera Melos will be recording for an EP CD this weekend. Three songs, it will be about 30 minutes, I guess that's an EP? They played almost all new songs on this Fall Of Troy tour, if you caught any of the sets, you ARE EXTREMELY EXCITED about these upcoming recordings.
Stay tuned to Tera Melos' myspace page for more news and tour updates.

The Secretions are in the running to play the "Twisted Christmas" show at the Arco Arena in Sacramento! This would be the hugest show they have ever played, and our boys would get to make total asses of My Chemical Romance and Papa Roach. They won't make fun of Gnarls Barkley though.
PLEASE!!!! Click here to vote. You have to register with KWOD first, it only takes a minute and if you click the box, they won't send you any annoying e-mails or ever bug you ever again.

Lots of Secretions shows coming up all over CA (and even Reno), visit them on MySpace for show listings and other news updates, and word on Danny Secretions new radio show!

Jason Webley just got back from tour Australia with The Dresden Dolls! Check him out this November touring the West Coast with a full band, including Jherek of The Dead Science and Xiu Xiu. If you attend one of the shows, please draw a unicorn for Jherek and tell him it's from me (Avi).
This year's big Seattle show will be on November 11 instead of the usual Halloween! Tour dates and other updates are on Jason's website.

The Teenage Harlets are laying low, having started a big fight with The Phenomenauts over their "Free Angel Nova" t-shirt.. Just kidding! See them on tour all January and February, including a bunch of dates with our secret crushes in The Rock And Roll Adventure Kids!
Add them on MySpace if you're fifteen years old.

The River City Rebels just got back from a very strange national fly-away tour of free shows paid for by a big evil cigarette company. I know lots of hippies who smoke, but none smoke independently made cigarettes, so eat a dick. It was a great tour, and debuted a bunch of The Rebels fucking incredible new songs! Stay tuned for more news on that.
Listen on their MySpace page!

The Rum Diary has been laying low, but has a brand new drummer and will start playing again next month! Stay tuned for news on that too. And check out their limited edition four-way-split 7" with The Jade Shader, Facing New York, and Years Around The Sun!!!
Visit them too on MySpace.
And check out Daniel's almost finished solo-project, Identical Homes, its panty-dropping music.

*PHEW* I think that’s it for now. Our records are still in heavy rotation at the Sacramento post office down-town.

PEACE

10/10/2006: Dan O'Day's new CD is out, and Lucero rocks!
Dan O'Day, aka THE BOPPER of The River City Rebels' new CD, Street Performer, comes out today. Pick it up at your favorite local record shop, or mail-order!

In other news,

Lucero is so freaking awesome, you should slap your father in the face while he is sleeping. This isn't remotely Springman related (yet?), but go see them if you can. Their set just now in Sacramento completely blew my mind.

9/25/2006: New music from River City Rebels' THE BOPPER!
The new releases just won't stop! Next month we will be releasing the debut solo album from RIVER CITY REBELS front-man Daniel O'Day, also known as THE BOPPER. It will be in stores October 10th, but you can get yours early by pre-order right here.

Over the past few years, The River City Rebels have become friends and touring partners with nearly every band on our roster. While this is probably going to be our most controversial partnership since Treephort, we've gotten to really know the Rebels over the years and take great pride in welcoming them to the Springman family. Their upcoming full-length will blow your mind, and this acoustic record is a welcome change of pace, more in the singer/songwriter vein, fitting in somewhere between Joe Strummer, Wilco and Bright Eyes -- check out some songs on Dan's MySpace profile.

9/20/2006: The Phenomenauts and The Toasters Dates

Hot on the heels of their first national headlining tour, The Phenomenauts have announced some local shows along with ten dates in November with ska heavyweights The Toasters.

Also announced is The Phenomenauts annual "Halloween Zombie Party" on October 27th, and a show the band is hosting but not playing with The Briefs, both being hosted by their Command Center in West Oakland.

Here are their upcoming tour dates:

9/18/2006: Rum Diary
Hello friends who just read The Rum Diary's e-mail announcement! Click here for more information about their upcoming four way split 7" with Facing New York, The Jade Shader and Years Around The Sun. It is almost here!!!

For those of you not on their e-mail list, here is some Rum Diary news direct from that horsey's mouth.

It's true, our drummer moved to New York. It's also true that we took a well deserved break while I moved to San Francisco, worked on some side projects and while we found another place to practice. We are, however, still practicing, writing and recording songs, and releasing records. We will miss Joe with all of our hearts as a friend and a band mate, but we must press on as we have plenty of unfinished business. Here are some fun facts:
--We are writing and recording 4 new songs at the Cotati Sound Machine (now located in San Francisco).
--We plan to start playing live again by the end of this year with the help of a laptop and our friend/genius multi-instrumentalist Jake.

9/09/2006: Jason Webley Down Undah!

9/08/2006: Jeff Worms leaves Tera Melos
In a myspace.com blog-post, guitarist Jeff Worms has announced his parting ways with Tera Melos. "We are all still friends," said Worms. "The guys made it clear that I could come back whenever (don't hold your breath), which is very sweet of them."

The remaining members will continue touring in support their untitled debut CD, and have some really fucking exciting things coming up that I can't tell you about just yet. There are no plans to actively search for a new guitar player, but the band is open to getting a new member if the chemistry fits.
We've all had a blast hanging out and working with Jeff and wish him the best.

9/07/2006: North VS South
Another new project! We were going to announce it next week, but punknews.org scooped us:

Four way split 7" with brand new exclusive songs from Facing New York, The Jade Shader (members of No Knife and Boilermaker!!!), The Rum Diary, and Years Around the Sun.
Limited pressing of 500, hand-numbered, crazy rainbow wax, no two will look the same. CLICK HERE to pre-order, these will ship out over the last week of Sept and first week of October.

Check 'em out as they dock their Phenoma-Bomber to the XM satellites for the very first time.

===
The Phenomenauts are on a national tour right now with Left Alone, then The River City Rebels and The Teenage Harlets (tour dates on myspace)! And, Big D And The Kids Table has some shows coming up with Rancid (tour dates on myspace)!
===
It's rare that I'll ask you to vote for something when its up against bands like Pain or Dillinger Four since both Pain and Dillinger Four are such fucking awesome bands, you have no business being on this website if you don't have their records (unless you are using this website to order the Pain records), but I digress, this request is special.

The Teenage Harlets are in the running to be the #1 band this week on PunkRadioCast, a friggen awesome online radio station incase you didn't know. We would GREATLY APPRECIATE if you could click this link below here and then vote for The Teenage Harlets once a day until Sunday. Don't hack it or we get disqualified, just go click it for real. If we win, I'll bring cupcakes to their next bunch of shows, no joke.

And if you live within six hours of San Francisco, come to their CD release show on Friday at The Covered Wagon Annie's Social Club, with the Secretions, Thee Merry Widows, Rock And Roll Adventure Kids, and Flexx Bronco! I'll be there, the drunk obnoxious one that isn't Johnny.

8/23/2006: Worstward Ho!
I got the new Shinobu CD, Worstward Ho! in the mail from Asian Man Records today. It kicks ass, go buy it for just $8 including postage! You can also get their previous CD, Herostratus Vs. Time released on Lets Go! Records, right here from Springman mail-order.

8/17/2006: Coming this September: HELLA TIGHT!

Nine-way split CD featuring hella tight exclusive recordings from some of my favorite local bands:
Bridges, Identical Homes, Calling All Monsters, Shinobu, Brilliant Red Lights, Teenage Harlets, Pteradon (ex November Trials), Tera Melos, Worker Bee

Limited pressing of 1,000. Killer artwork by the epic Zach Trover. Available exclusively at shows or for $5 including postage while supplies last. Stay tuned for more information and mail-order instructions.

8/17/2006: Witnesses are useless, take some action
Check out the un-edited music video for Rise Against's single, Ready To Fall. It is pretty disturbing, most of it was banned from MTV:

Rise Against was the highlight of my Warped Tour experience this year (along with The Bouncing Souls), I love this band so fucking hard. Be sure to get their last album, Siren Songs Of The Counter Culture, it has been stuck on repeat in my apartment for the better part of the last two years. Their new album is really good to, but Siren Songs is just fucking epic. I talked to Tim backstage after their set and felt like a little school-girl, rambling about how great they were, even though we've known each other for years and have even worked together a while back on our Pounded comic-book soundtrack CD.. nerd nerd nerd. Go Vegan.

8/10/2006: A Mystery
What do the following totally fucking amazing local bands have in common?
{{{Bridges, Identical Homes, Calling All Monsters, Shinobu, Brilliant Red Lights, Teenage Harlets, Pteradon, Tera Melos, Worker Bee}}
Other than being bands you absolutely need to know.. Well, I'll tell you next week. It's going to blow your pants right off!

8/08/2006: Jason Webley + Dresden Dolls = FUCK YEA
Check out Jason Webley on tour in Australia and New Zeland with THE DRESDEN DOLLS this September! Visit his website for the details on that, more upcoming USA touring, and the 2nd in his series of Super Seven-Inches limited to 1,111 each and available now for mail-order!

Speaking of Jason Webley, I just got back from Seattle! It was a blast, and we got to watch The River City Rebels and drink with The Briefs.

If you're in Seattle and get hungry, check out what Jason Webley refers to as The best dumplings in the world at The Szechuan Noodle Bowl (420 8th Ave S on the corner of Jackson). We spent less than $5 each and were totally stuffed off their yummy awesomeness.

8/03/2006: Avi and Big D on the TopWelt PodCast!
Check out the latest PodCast from TopWelt on their MySpace page, featuring an interview with yours-truly along with Big D And The Kids Table! The show basically turned into the Springman episode with nearly exclusive content from our bands, and a contest where five winners get a free Springman Records shirt.
And for the record I really like Fall Out Boy a lot and have even been known to get cut off at Kareoke bars for doing to good of a job on that "Sugar, we're going down swinging" song where you can't tell what the hell he's saying, but that's just because I love them so much and was just kind of drunk when this interview took place.
Here is a direct link to the big fat MP3 file of the entire hour-long show.

7/31/2006: READ THIS
From PunkNews.org:

1-800-SUICIDE, the non-profit suicide hotline supported by the Take Action Tour is in danger of losing all federal funding. The organization has to date, accepted calls from more than two million individuals. At the heart of the issue is the confidentiality of callers; currently, the organization maintains a strict privacy policy while the government is seeking to obtain these records.

Substance Abuse & Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), a division of the federal government's Health & Human Services, has decided to create their own government-run system because that the management of 1-800-SUICIDE has refused to turn over the control of the National Hopeline Network to the government.

This is not the first attempt of the administration to influence the hotline, which earlier tried to force the charity to remove all references to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered individuals from a recent conference as well as add session on "faith-based" suicide prevention.

The government has also not lived up to previous comittments to the charity to provide more than $266,000. Conversely, both Mike Park's Plea for Peace and Louis Posen's Take Action Tour have privately raised that amount.

7/30/2006: Comic Con With The Phenomenauts Wrap-Up
We kicked things off at the San Diego Comic Book Convention with a sold-out show at The House Of Blues where The Phenomenauts got to open for our heroes in Supernova (the real deal, not to be confused with a shitty reality-show hair-metal band. You might remember them from that "Whata Wookie" song in Clerks). Funny story, CBS sent them a "cease and desist" letter as if their shitty super-group realty-show was somehow more important and had dibs on the name. Anyway, CBS is fucked, the real Supernova has been around since 1989 and has filed a counter-suit. The show also re-united us with our old tour-buddies The Aquabats.

There has been some talk lately about a Phenomenauts cartoon series, and at the convention we got to rub elbows with a bunch of cartoon people including folks at Disney, Warner Brothers and Fox along with the creative forces behind some of our favorite shows like Futerama and The Simpsons! Here is a picture with the creators of The Venture Brothers doing the Phenomenauts' salute:

Another highlight was hanging out at The Zombie Lounge and getting to see a band called Killer Robots, whose body armor is made from the same material as The Phenomenauts' Bomber. See if you can spot them, they are kind of camouflage against the van:

And these nerds were hanging out behind the convention center all weekend dressed up like knights and using swords to beat the shit out of each other:

All in all, it was an amazing weekend. Thanks to all the cadets who came out and made us feel welcome at the convention!

7/13/2006: The Secretions finally win something!
Danny Secretion must have been going all-out in the oral-treats department while hanging out at the Sac News And Review office, as his band has finally won a Sammie award for "Best Sacramento Punk Band!"

The Secretions have been nominated for the past fifty straight years without winning once, we were seriously ready to burn the SN&R offices to the ground. We are actually kind of bummed that we don't get to use all these nifty explosives, but congratulations to the Secretions for finally winning what we knew they should have had all along, and to the Sac News And Review for getting it right!

Tera Melos were also nominated in the contest for "Best Metal Band" (yea we know they aren't metal, but since the Melos doesn't really fit in anywhere, its all cool). Nobody called me to say if Tera Melos won anything, but if they did, I'll let you know and we'll have a big taco-party.

And don't forget, THESE BANDS ARE ON TOUR:
(clicky clicky click click for dates on their myspace pages since our website is still broken)

*The Secretion's new CD, Coming To Save The World, along with the latest Pain re-issue, Full Speed Ahead, will be in stores on 6/6/06!

Mail-order update: Springman Mail-order is on hold until June 21st, so for now, visit www.interpunk.com or your favorite online mail-order, and send us an e-mail if there is anything you can't find. We have been a bit slow with mail-order since moving to Sacramento earlier this year, so we are going to make sure it is back to being a well oiled super-fast machine before we bring it back. If you are still waiting on an order for anything other than Pain's Jabberjaw CD, PLEASE send me an e-mail so we can take care of that (and if you're waiting on the Pain disc, we will have them back in stock soon!)

Lots more exciting things are in the works, stay tuned for updates. Come back over the next few days for everyone's updated summer tour dates. And thanks again for all your support!

XOXO

Check out SPACE FLIGHT, the brand new Phenomenauts video-game from our friends at adventuresinchaoscity.com!

4/17/2006: We just signed THE TEENAGE HARLETS!!!
You probably know them from their extensive touring with Springman bands like The Groovie Ghoulies, Phenomenauts, Secretions, Jason Webley, and their spot on our Space Station stage on the Warped Tour a few years back.. But just incase, check out their page on MySpace.com or read about them right here:

The TEENAGE HARLETS don't play rock & roll -- they play danger. Flying a defiant finger in the face of the San Francisco garage scene since 1999, TEENAGE HARLETS style rock has no tiresome monologs, no politics, no talking, no tuning, no fancy knobs or effects. They play revved up, stripped down, non-stop short attention-span surf-garage-punk-rock-mayhem that will have you singing and dancing while you run for your life. Worried? No need to fear. Thanks to Springman Records and the latest in garage-based recording technology, you can dance along in the relative safety of your own home as the HARLETS tear through 22 songs in 30 minutes on their new record, Up the Fixx, in stores July 11th July 25th, 2006.

In other news,

This will probably be the ONLY Groovie Ghoulies show this year:

I really don't know what they're thinking letting the Secretions play this family event.

AND, We just updated the Tour Dates page, lots of new shows for the entire Springman family.

Sacramento Update #1:
The Secretions' myspace.com page now has two brand new songs available for your listening pleasure! Jerkin' Off To You from their upcoming three-way-split with Ashtray and Sex Tape Scandal, and Stupid Fuckin' Vegan from the upcoming Queers tribute record being organized by Joe Queer himself. Go listen now, both songs kick the donkey's ass.

Sacramento Update #2:
Last night, a gigantic drunk gentleman was stumbling around in the street right outside my temporary residence at 23rd and P (the Brilliant Red Lights' apartment). We came out onto the balcony to see if he needed a cab or some water. After some friendly conversation, he tried to kick his way into the apartment, smashing his foot through the door, before falling eight feet off the steps onto his face. He then bled everywhere, and tried to fight off the fire-men who put him onto a stretcher and into an ambulance.
